My Favorite Technique to Get Motivated
The alarm clock goes off at 6:30 AM, it’s still dark outside, and you’re just about to hit snooze and wish you had another hour to sleep. Do you know the feeling? I certainly do. Everbody does! Feeling unmotivated is perfectly normal at times, but it’s very important to net let it drag you down. If you start your day off on the right foot everything goes easier, so why not take advantage of a simple trick that will hel you shake off the morning blues? I have found an easy way to overcome this feeling, one that I applied for the last five years or so with consistent results.
Here’s how it works:
- When the alarm goes off, set it to snooze, but don’t close your eyes again to sleep another five minutes. FLie on your back, force yourself to keep your eyes open and look at a point on the ceiling.
- Imagine all the great things you’re going to accomplish today: Get out of bed happily and energetically, contribute to a warm and loving atmosphere with your family. Maybe finish an important project at work or in school, and top it off with a workout that will get you energized. Imagine all these things in vivid, bright colors, but with your eyes open.
- After a minute or so of basking in positive imaginations, turn off your alarm clock (the snooze button, otherwise it goes off afterwards when you’re in the shower), and get up.
Why should I keep my eyes open? Because if you close them and visualize with closed eyes, you will quickly fall asleep again. It’s sometimes hard to remember to apply this technique, just because the temptation of sleeping in a little longer can be huge, but once you have gotten the hang of it, you will see that it really works.
This technique has proven extremely successful for me. Just try it and see what happens.
Have a happy and successful day!
